Blake Griffin who is the number one overall pick of the 2009 NBA draft was sent to Pistons early this week after their General Manager Steve Ballmer decided to revamp the line-up of his Los Angeles Clippers squad.
In exchange for Griffin, Detroit packaged Tobias Harris, Avery Bradley, Boban Marjanovic and two draft picks. Reports said that although coach Steve Van Gundy squad upgraded its low-post players, there’ll be now some concern on Piston’s wing position.
“Shocked is a good way to put it,” he said. “I didn’t know anything. I pretty much found out when everybody else found out. It just kind of took a second to realize, OK, like, everything’s changing.”
Griffin now sporting a jersey number 23 in Motor City as the number 32 was already in Detroit’s rafters which was used before by Richard Hamilton who helped the team win the 2014 NBA Finals trophy.
The five time NBA All-Star wasted no time after the tip-off as he scored the Piston’s first two points. Then in the final quarter, Griffin found Anthony Tolliver open from the three-point area and converted a basket that puts Detroit ahead Memphis 101-100 with 1:49 remaining in the game.
Griffin logged a double-double performance in his first game wearing a new uniform. He logged 24 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists along with his two blocked shots.
“I want to play for an organization that wants me to play there, and clearly, this was an organization that wanted me to play here,” Griffin said.
