The former third overall pick Carmelo Anthony was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Chicago Bulls.
ESPN Adrian Wojnarowski confirmed this report via a tweet:

The sad news about this and to Melo fans is that even Anthony is now with his new team, the Bulls isn’t planning to insert him in their active roster instead he will be waived later.
Carmelo Anthony will not play a game for the Bulls, but it is possible that franchise holds off on waiving him until the trade deadline, league sources tell ESPN. Bulls could include him in a one-for-one trade, but can't aggregate his contract in another deal.

Yet, this can be a blessing in disguise if only Anthony also wanted this path as many of the NBA fans particularly for the Los Angeles Lakers as he might be waived before the trade deadline this coming February.
The Lakers has shown interest on snagging Anthony:
Sources: The Lakers maintain interest in Anthony, but do not want to waive a guaranteed player to create a roster spot for him, league sources tell ESPN. If a roster spot eventually opens with LA, yes, the Lakers are a possible destination for Anthony.

Carmelo joined the Rockets this season and was reunited with his former New York Knicks head coach Mike D’Antoni.
He only played 10 games with Houston and then the team decided to remove him from their active roster after his miserable shooting performance with his former team, the OKC Thunder.
