The Boston Celtics won two in a row despite of the absence of their superstar guard Kyrie Irving.

Apart from Irving who is sidelined due to a knee injury the Celtics entered the game also without the services of their reserve guard Terry Rozier who is out due to illness.

Boston’s head coach Brad Stevens adjusted its lineup, to compensate the absence of his guards, Stevens opted to go big.

For the first time this year and his second start since November, Gordon Hayward was inserted to the Celtics first-five lineup.

“When our offense started taking off I feel like we’ve had a couple of point guards in the game at once, and playing him as a second point guard with (Marcus) Smart we thought was really important,” Stevens said.

“When Kyrie’s not here usually we start Terry, Smart and kind of keep that thing going. But that was the general thought. We knew we were going to switch a lot and the bigger that we could be along the perimeter the better. Those guys (Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond) are a load, Griffin’s a load. We wanted to guard the 3-point line as well as we could and we wanted to make sure that we just tried to have a body on them at all times. Another 6-foot-9 guy is a good thing.”

Hayward who is slowly becoming the Gordon Hayward in Utah delivered an all-around game for his team. He logged 18 points, five rebounds and eight assists. Jayson Tatum led Boston in scoring with his 19 points while Al Horford and Jaylen Brown added 17 points each.

Blake Griffin led the Detroit Pistons with his 32 points and eight rebounds while Andre Drummond added 21 points and 17 rebounds.
