The French squad has toasted the hopes of team USA for their third straight FIBA World Cup gold medal.
A massive scoring surge displayed by team France in the crucial moments of the match where they won 89-79 and now advances to the semi-finals round.
Frank Ntilikina played a major role on that run where he made seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter plus his suffocating defense against team USA’s point guard, Kemba Walker.
Yet, there main offensive contributor came from Evan Fournier and Rudy Gobert. Fournier had 22 points while Gobert dropped 21 markers and was a monster in cleaning the boards with his 16 rebounds plus three swats.
One of Gobert’s blocks came from his Utah Jazz teammate Donovan Mitchell where he denied a possible momentum swing at the 53 seconds mark.
The Americans had the chance to control the game but Kemba Walker and Marcus Smart missed several crucial free-throws.
“It’s probably the kind of game we’re going to talk about in 20 years,” French center Rudy Gobert said after the game.
