Here are the scores, updates, and results of the NBA 2020-2021 regular season match between the Boston Celtics (BOS) and the Minnesota Timberwolves (MIN) on April 10, 2021 (All times are in Philippine Standard Time) at the TD Garden.
Jayson Tatum led the Boston Celtics with a phenomenal performance throughout the matchup. The third pick of the 2017 NBA Draft chipped in 53 huge points (18 in the 4th quarter) and grabbed 10 rebounds, finishing the game with a double-double. Furthermore, he went 15-16 from the charity stripe and managed to drop 6 of his 10 attempts from beyond the three-point arc.
“Scoring 50 is a big thing in this league and especially at this age,” Tatum said. “It’s a night I will always remember. First 50-point game and we got the win on top of that. … Every win right now is big. So we’ll take it.”
Additionally, Tatum’s 53 points were the most points scored since Larry Bird tallied a franchise-record 60 points in 1985.
“It’s kinda hard to put into words,” Tatum shared after the game. “Anytime you’re mentioned in any category with someone like that, one of the greatest players ever is an honor.”
Brad Stevens also shared his thoughts on his player’s excellent night.
“Tatum was super-special tonight,” shared by Brad Stevens. “Don’t mistake his quiet demeanor for not being a competitor. He was a competitor.”
The Timberwolves had a 17-point lead against the Celtics. But within the third quarter, the Boston squad alongside Tatum’s brilliancy in terms of shooting the ball from outside the three-point arc managed to erase the lead of the opposing team and led by as many as eight in the last quarter. After a couple of sequences, the Minnesota Timberwolves sent the game to OT.
Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown helped their superstar go past the Timberwolves as both of them ended the matchup with a 20-point game. Brown tallied 26 points, who made amazing shots despite the angle and the defense of the defender while Smart added 24 points and played as a facilitator for the team. Smart also grabbed 6 rebounds and dished out 8 assists. Also, both of them went active on the defensive side, stealing 4 combined possessions from the Timberwolves, Smart had 2 while Brown had a pair.
Karl Anthony Towns finished the game with a double-double as he scored 30 markers and grabbed 12 boards. Russell added 26 and made the three-point shot to send the game to overtime while Anthony Edwards chipped in 24 points.
“I thought we fought hard. We gave ourselves some chances,” Russell said. “At the end of the game, all you can ask for is a chance.”
The Boston Celtics advance to 27-26 while the Minnesota Timberwolves drop down to 13-40.
