Jayson Tatum carries the Boston Celtics with a 50-point game to defeat the Brooklyn Nets in Game 3. Tatum tallied 50 points, seven assists, and six rebounds. Not only that, but he also made 5 three-pointers after playing for 41 minutes. The 23-year old forward of the Celtics dropped unguardable shots in front of the outstretched arms of the defender, making sure that they will win in their homecourt. Tatum became the sixth player in Celtics history to score 50 points in the playoffs.
“He was just locked in mentally,” Marcus Smart shared his thoughts on the incredible performance that his teammate executed against a powerful team. “We’re going up against a juggernaut of a team. Like I said before, the world knows it and we know it. It’s not going to be easy. You can’t lay down, you can’t take a step back. You have to be able to press forward and that’s what we did tonight.”
Smart finished with 23 points while shooting 8-11 from the field. In addition to that, he also hit 5 three-point shots. Thompson added 19 points and 13 rebounds, finishing the game with a double-double while Fournier had 17 points.
James Harden and Kevin Durant both had phenomenal outputs for their team, but it was not enough to win against the opposing team and have a 3-0 lead in the series. Harden led the Nets with 41 points, Durant added 39 while Irving ended the game with 16 points.
“They made shots tonight, especially Tatum,” Durant shared. “He hit some tough ones over us. I don’t think he made anything easy.”
In the fourth quarter, the Nets brought down a 16-point lead of the Celtics and narrowed it down to five with just under a minute remaining. After that, Tatum splashed a step-back jumper and secured the win for his squad.
The Boston Celtics win in Game 3, trailing the series 2-1 against the Brooklyn Nets. The series will resume on Monday at 7:00 AM for Game 4 of the first round of the NBA Playoffs.
