Here are the scores, updates, and results of the NBA 2020-2021 Playoffs in the first round between the Los Angeles Clippers (LAC) against the Dallas Mavericks (DAL) on May 23, 2021 (All times are in Philippine Standard Time) at the Staples Center.
The Dallas Mavericks tops the LA Clippers at the Staples Center and went out victorious in game 1.
Luka Doncic had a stellar triple-double output against the Clippers in this matchup, scoring 31 points, collecting ten rebounds, and dimed 11 assists. Not only that, but the sensational Maverick also went active on the defensive end as he blocked 2 shots and had one steal. In the second quarter, “Luka Magic” went on fire from beyond the three-point arc, drilling three-point shot after three-point shot against the Clippers. One of those three-pointers gave the team its tenth three-pointer to end the first half.
“We won the game,” Doncic said. “That’s all that matters for me.”
Tim Hardaway Jr. and Finney-Smith both helped Doncic with their three-point shooting prowess to secure the game. Hardaway Jr. finished the game with 21 points and five three-pointers made while Finney-Smith had 18 points and dropped four three-point shots.
“I just know they’re going to send two guys at Luka. You’ve just got to be ready to shoot,” Finney-Smith shared his thoughts regarding the Clippers’ defense on Doncic throughout the game.
The Clippers were leading the league with their three-point shooting at 41% during the regular season. However, the superstars of the Clippers and the Clippers as a whole did not have an excellent game in terms of their three-point shooting.
Kawhi Leonard scored 26 points and 10 rebounds, finishing the game with a double-double while Paul George added 23 points. Both of them combined 3-14 on their three-pointers. The whole Clippers squad went 11-40 from outside the three-point area.
“Our spirits are still high and we believe in ourselves,” Leonard shared. “Nothing good comes easy.”
In the third quarter, Leonard stole the ball from the Mavericks and orchestrated a fast break. As he was driving towards the rim, he attempted a slam dunk against the outstretched arms of Kleber as Kleber contested him. “The Klaw” then soared to the rim for an incredible poster on Kleber, making the forward of the Mavericks sit on the ground.
