Horton-Tucker made a three-point shot to give the Lakers the lead in the last minutes of the matchup, giving his team a two-point lead over the Knicks. The 20-year old Laker tallied 13 points and 10 dimes at the end of a thrilling game at the Staples Center.
Kyle Kuzma, who missed a Laker game back on Sunday because of lower back tightness and had terrible nights in terms of his shooting prior to this matchup, came up big in this game as he tallied 23 points, 3 rebounds, and dropped 4 three-pointers. Not only that, but he also went 9-17 after playing for 33 minutes for the Lakers.
With 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists, Anthony Davis made big shots against the Knicks to further secure the win and also made defensive stops. Drummond recorded 16 points and 18 big rebounds, ending the game with a double-double.
Before overtime, the Knicks was up 2 points against the Lakers. Caldwell-Pope had a good look for a corner-three-pointer, but he was not able to convert it. Fortunately for the Lakers, Wesley Matthews, who is known for his laser three-point shooting, soared high up amongst the trees and put it back to tie the game. At the end of the game, Matthews was able to score 8 points and made 3 three-point shots.
The New York Knicks played outstandingly against the reigning champions of the league, but it was not enough to defeat them.
Derrick Rose tallied 27 big points, 6 boards, and 6 dimes. He also hit a jumper with 1:37 left on the clock to put his team up by two before Matthews tied the game with an impressive effort.
The former Laker, Julius Randle, played for 44 minutes and caused big trouble on the Lakers’ defense, hitting triple after triple within the final minutes of the game. The Knicks could have won the game if only Randle splashed that driving floater after Matthews tied the game. Overall, Randle tallied 31 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. In addition to that, he also made 4 three-point shots.
The Lakers rise up to 39-30 while the Knicks drop to 38-31.
