The Phoenix Suns ties the series with two games apiece against the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 at the Staples Center.
Initially, Monty Williams, the head coach of the Phoenix Suns, was planning to not let Chris Paul play in this game because of a shoulder injury that limited him to have a big impact. Paul then convinced his coach after a conversation before the game.
“He said, ‘Coach, let me start, and if you don’t think I’m looking like I normally do, then take me out and we’ll have to go in a different direction,’” Williams shared. “This is one of those situations that I had to trust the player.”
At the end of the game, Paul nearly ended the game with a double-double, recording 18 points and nine assists. Not only that, but he also had 3 steals.
Crowder and Booker both finished with 17 points. Crowder, who has been struggling with his three-pointers within the series, managed to sink 3 out of his 8 attempts from outside the three-point arc. Booker only hit 1 of his 5 attempts from there also.
As a team, the Suns only hit 10 of their 35 attempts from beyond the three-point line.
Knowing that Anthony Davis will not return to play for the second half, Deandre Ayton took advantage of that and tallied 14 points and 17 rebounds.
LeBron James scored 25 points and had 12 boards for his team, finishing the game with a double-double.
Davis only scored six points on 2-9 shooting before having a groin injury and left the game.
“I thought he was laboring a little bit” Vogel said. “He was saying that his knee was sore, but there was no way that he was not going to play. I thought he gave a heck of a run at it, trying to compete through pain.”
The Suns dominated the Lakers in the third quarter as they scored 27 points against the Lakers’ 15, making a big lead that the Lakers could not outscore for the rest of the game.
Davis had a medical treatment during the game and left the Staples Center before the final buzzer. James said that he is ready if Davis will miss any future games.
“For me, it’s putting our team in position to be successful,” James shared. “These shoulders were built for a reason, and if it takes a little more to put on top of it, I’m ready for the challenge.”
The series will resume on Wednesday at 10:00 AM for Game 5 at Phoenix for Game 5 of the first round o the NBA Playoffs.
