Here are the scores, updates, and results of the NBA 2020-2021 regular season match between the New Orleans Pelicans (NOP) vs the Los Angeles Lakers (LAL) on May 17, 2021 (All times are in Philippine Standard Time) at the Smoothie King Center.
The Los Angeles Lakers beats down the New Orleans Pelicans in the Smoothie King Center with a final score of 110-98 while also extending their winning streak to five.
LeBron James went play-off mode against the Pelicans, dropping deep threes and drove towards the cup to score. At the end of the game, “The King” tallied 25 points, 6 assists, and had 2 three-pointers. Unfortunately, James landed on Alexander-Walker’s foot and fell to the floor after spinning to hit a lay-up in the fourth quarter.
“I’ll be fine,” James said after an unpleasant incident.
The Lakers will still be included in the play-in tournament that will begin on May 19, Thursday. The Lakers will meet the Warriors and their brilliant point guard, Stephen Curry on the next day.
James said that he will be on the lineup on Thursday against the Warriors.
“I’ll be in the lineup on Wednesday,” James shared. “The time is now and I’m ready for it.”
Anthony Davis and Andre Drummond, the big men of the Lakers squad, both had a decent game against the Pelicans. Davis chipped in 14 points while Drummond recorded a double-double performance, scoring 13 points while collecting 13 rebounds.
Meanwhile, Hernangomez led the Pelicans with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Naji Marshall added 18 points and made a half-court shot to end the first half.
The Pelicans were playing without their key players due to injuries, namely, the first pick of the 2019 NBA draft, Zion Williamson, and Brandon Ingram, the former-Laker.
“We had some important guys out with injury, so it was just another opportunity for other guys. Everybody was working really hard,” Hernangomez said after playing for 30 minutes while shooting 8-11 from the floor. “I’m really happy with the opportunity that I had.”
The Los Angeles Lakers move up to 42-30 while the New Orleans Pelicans drop to 31-41.
