Often regarded as one of the greatest coaches to coach in the NBA, Gregg Popovich wants to be the most winningest coach in the NBA, knocking Don Nelson off the number one spot as the most winningest coach.
“Coach Pop” has been in the NBA since the late 80s where he first coached for the San Antonio Spurs as an assistant coach for the team. After 4 years with the Spurs, he joined the Warriors as an assistant coach as well and spent two years there. Popovich returned to the Spurs and was hired as the head coach of the team and went off to have five championships with them. Not only that but three Coach of the Year awards also.
He mentored the Spurs for 1, 963 games, winning 1, 310 games and lost 653 of them.
Popovich only has 25 wins to go to tie Don Nelson’s 1, 335 wins, and 26 wins to break the record. If the veteran coach decides to retire at the end of the season without completing the goal, he is still going to be regarded as one of the greatest to coach in the NBA.
