LeBron James’ companion in the 2003 NBA Draft, Carmelo Anthony, has been struggling for a decent amount of time in the NBA and has evolved from a go-to guy to a regular role player for the teams that he has played for overtime.
After leaving New York for Oklahoma in 2017, his numbers in terms of scoring decreased. After a year playing for OKC, he was signed by the Houston Rockets where he only played for ten games. Within those ten games, he only averaged 13.4 points. He was then traded on January 22 to the Bulls but got waived on February 1.
It was a difficult time for Anthony as he was finding his game on every team that he played for after leaving the Knicks.
In November of 2019, the Trail Blazers signed and gave Anthony a chance to regain his unique playstyle while playing for Portland, and he did.
He played for two seasons with the Trail Blazers and averaged 14.4 points per game while playing for the team. Many people were shocked and proud of how Melo came back after having a rough time, and one of them is LeBron James.
The King stated in a video of Anthony sharing his motivation to play again in the league. The first pick of the 2003 NBA Draft was without a doubt happy for Anthony, saying that he did not give up and left his career into dust despite the negativity that was brought out by people.
Melo signed a one-year contract with the contending Lakers to play together with LeBron James and other key players such as Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook. Not to mention Dwight Howard and his ability to defend the rim. Anthony will fight for his first ring with the purple and gold.
