Here are the scores, updates, and results of the NBA 2021-2022 Regular Season between the San Antonio Spurs (SAS) vs the Los Angeles Lakers (LAL) on October 27, 2021 (All times are in Philippine Standard Time) at the AT&T Center.
Russell Westbrook fuels the LeBron-less Lakers to win in overtime against the San Antonio Spurs with a final score of 125-121. Westbrook finished with a near triple-double performance, scoring 33 points, grabbed ten boards, and dished out eight assists while converting 15 of his 27 attempts on the floor.
Anthony Davis also had a huge performance to win in their first road game, tallying 35 points and had 17 rebounds. The big man hit floaters and jump shots late in the matchup to seal the deal for his team. Not only that, but “The Brow” also helped the team by taking care of the second-chance points. On the defensive end, Davis blocked four shots.
LeBron James was not able to play in this matchup since he was suffering from a sore right ankle. Ellington was not also able to join the matchup due to a strained left hamstring. Let’s hope we can see both of these players play in their next game against the Oklahoma City Thunder at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.
“We understand that with (James’ absence) comes the responsibility of making guys around us better,” Westbrook shared his thoughts on James’ injury. “And tonight, I thought A.D. did a great job of just being aggressive all night, miss and makes, finishing well around the basket. He was big for us tonight.” he added.
Because of the absence of “The King”, Malik Monk was the one to start in his spot. The former Hornet totaled 17 points and dropped a deep three-pointer to take the lead with less than a minute remaining in the final quarter of the matchup.
“It was like a home game,” Monk shared after the game. “I’ve never seen nothing like it before. It’s crazy. It’s a crazy feeling. It made us more comfortable and let everybody relax like we were at home.”
As for the Spurs, they receive their second loss after playing four games to start the season. The team played outstandingly, but it was not enough to deliver the win.
Jakob Poeltl had a phenomenal output for the home team as he collected 27 points and had 14 rebounds while hitting 13 of his 17 attempts. Not only that, but he also had three blocks. With him is Dejounte Murray who had an exceptional triple-double, scoring 21 points, dished out 15 dimes, and had 12 rebounds.
Walker IV and Vassell also aided the team from the bench, scoring 40 combined points, 21 for Walker IV and 10 for Vassell.
Overall, the Spurs sank 12 of their 22 looks from the charity stripe while missing all of their seven attempts within the fourth quarter alone.
“I thought we played another really good game,” Popovich, the head coach of the Spurs, said. “I am really proud of the guys. They went toe to toe with a talented, experienced group. If they continue to play like that, hopefully that worm will turn, and these will turn into wins. They deserve it.”
