Japeth Aguilar has shown his former self in his recent games with the Barangay Ginebra, especially matchups that he has played in against the Beermen and against the Road Warriors.
With his stellar productions and contributions to the Gin-Kings squad, he helped the team sit in the number one spot in the standings category with four wins and one loss alongside their sister team, the San Miguel Beermen. Not only that, but they are also having a two-game winning streak.
Aguilar, a former Ateneo star, had 20 points while hitting nine of his 13 attempts from the floor in their comeback win against NLEX. Against the Beermen, the big man tallied a double-double performance, racking up 15 points and 14 rebounds. On the defensive end, Aguilar had two blocks on San Miguel in their tightly contested matchup.
Ginebra’s 6-foot-9 center has played all five games in the conference as he finally recovers from his left calf injury, an injury that held him back in the postseason of the Governors’ Cup. Aguilar is currently averaging 16.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, and 2.8 blocks while shooting 52% on his attempts as he earns the Player of the Week award.
The other players who were also nominated for the same award were his teammates Scottie Thompson, Christian Standhardinger, Tropang Giga’s Mikey Williams, RR Pogoy, Poy Erram, Blackwater’s Ato Ular, Yousef Taha, Jvee Casio, Magnolia’s Mark Barroca, Aris Dionisio, and Jio Jalalon.
