The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Meralco Bolts are going to have their decider game in their best-of-three series in the quarterfinals.
Ginebra was able to bounce back in Game two after being down 1-0 to force their third and final game against Meralco.
Both teams had big turnarounds on their players. Ginebra’s Aguilar and Standharinger, who both had subpar outputs in terms of scoring in their first match against the Bolts, now had notable ones while Meralco’s Black and Newsome were quiet in terms of scoring for the Bolts after leading the team in the previous contest.
Aguilar led Ginebra with 25 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks on 8-14 shooting while “The Bulldozer” had 15 points, 12 boards, and seven assists while converting seven of his 13 looks.
Black tallied nine points and went 3-9 on his shots while Newsome added only eight points as he hit only three of his 11 attempts. Nevertheless, both players still aided the squad with six rebounds, and five dishes from Black while Newsome appended eight boards and six dimes on his stat line.
It was an up and down contest all throughout the game except in the first period when both franchises pulled off 25 points. In the following quarter, Ginebra scored 30 points while Meralco only had 20 points to end the first half. The Bolts then came back with 26 points and limited the Gin-Kings to only put up 13 points on their end in the third.
However, Meralco was not able to maintain their winning momentum into the fourth period as they got outscored by the Kings, recording only 16 points against Ginebra’s 25 points, resulting in a defeat for Meralco.
Known for his defensive kit and hustle in the paint, Cliff Hodge led the team in scoring with 25 points while sinking eight of his 16 tries. Pasaol added 14 points in the losing cause against Ginebra.
LA Tenorio still struggled on his shots just like in the first game against the Bolts, but in the succeeding one, he was able to chalk up 13 points and three steals. Thompson had 11 points and nine assists as they win over the Bolts.
