LaMelo Ball is going to change his jersey number from number two to number one in his third upcoming season in the NBA, according to Shams Charania. Neither Ball nor Charania has explained why the Hornet guard is going to change numbers. Ball had worn number one in his high school years at Chino Hills and SPIRE Academy. Not only that but also abroad where he played for the Illawarra Hawks before joining the NBA.
The most possible explanation on why he is going to change his uniform numbers is that his brother, Lonzo Ball, is also wearing number two. This is so that he can make a distinction between himself and Lonzo, who played for the Los Angeles Lakers, New Orleans Pelicans, and now for the Chicago Bulls as a playmaker for the team.
Ball has been outstanding for Charlotte in his first two seasons playing for them. However, the Hornets squad was eliminated in the play-in tournament before they could enter the post-season competition for the second straight season. Charlotte is hoping that the young guard in his new jersey number alongside returning head coach Steve Clifford can aid the team to compete in the approaching season.
