The NLEX Road Warriors and the NorthPort Batang Pier are going to battle each other on the last day of the elimination round of the conference this afternoon. The Road Warriors currently have five wins and five losses while the Batang Pier has three victories and seven beatings.
NLEX had a big win against the Blackwater Bossing, racking up a lead that ballooned by as much as 41 points. Not only that, but they also crushed the Bossing team in the first quarter where they scored 31 points and held the opposing squad to only score two total points.
They maintained this winning momentum all throughout the matchup and ended up with their fifth win in the Philippine Cup.
Don Trollano led the Road Warriors as he entered the contest as a non-starter for the group, finishing the match with 16 points on 6-14 shooting against Blackwater. Oftana had 15 points and eight rebounds while Quiñahan had 12 points.
As for NorthPort, they are looking to bounce back after gaining a defeat in their recent game against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. The Jarencio-coached team had a strong start in the first period but got completely owned by the Kings in the second quarter and in the third quarter, opening a big losing difference for the Batang Pier.
The Batang Pier had a scoring surge in the fourth quarter, tallying 33 points while holding the Gin-Kings to only log 20 points. However, this effort was not able to deliver another win for the squad.
Robert Bolick had an outstanding game for the team against Ginebra, registering 29 points, five boards, four dishes, and converted eight of his 14 attempts from the three-point territory as he came as a second unit for NorthPort. Malonzo added 19 points while Santos had 14 points in the losing effort.
