The San Miguel Beermen and the NorthPort Batang Pier are going to face each other this afternoon. San Miguel is back at the top of the standings category at the number one spot with five wins and one loss with a two-game winning streak while NorthPort, who remained victorious in their first two contests in the conference, has now lost their past four matchups, resulting them to have a record of two wins and four defeats.
San Miguel triumphed over the Rain or Shine Elastopainters in their previous matchup. They held off the opposing team as they gradually reduced their lead in the following quarters and they were successful, ending the game with the win.
CJ Perez led the team with 21 points, four rebounds, and five assists on 8-16 shooting while Brondial and Lassiter added 32 combined points against the Elastopainters, 16 from both of them. Although June Mar Fajardo only logged in ten points for the team, he still dominated the rebounding all throughout the game as he racked up 16 rebounds, eight of them being offensive boards.
Cruz, who came as a second unit for the Beermen, had 14 points and five assists while hitting six of his 14 attempts on the field, while Enciso had 12 points against Rain or Shine.
As for NorthPort, they lost to the TNT Tropang Giga in their recent match even though they had a ten-point lead against them at one point in the game.
Jamie Malonzo had 27 big points for the Batang Pier but was not able to deliver the win. The athletic forward also had eight boards, four steals, and three blocks on the defensive end. Roi Sumang finished with 24 points and was a major factor in their massive surge in the fourth quarter as he knocked down jumpers and three-point shots against the Tropang Giga. Not only that, but “Super Sumang” also had ten dimes, ending the matchup with a double-double performance.
NorthPort also had contributors offensively from the bench, namely, Calma and Ferrer, who had 16 and 14 against TNT, respectively.
Unfortunately, NorthPort’s Bolick suffered an ankle injury as he fell to the ground. He was able to return later in the contest against the Tropang Giga, but it was only for a brief moment. Before that, he was able to gather five points, three assists, and two rebounds while playing for nine total minutes for the squad.
