Meralco has defeated the Gin-Kings in a series as they beat Ginebra in their best-of-three dispute while San Miguel took care of their Blackwater Bossing situation in the first round of the playoffs.

Meralco beat SMB in the elims with a final score of 89-86. Not only that, but they also met in the Governors’ Cup quarterfinals in the previous season where they also defeated the Beermen.

As for San Miguel, they had an outstanding run in the elimination round as they closed it atop of the standings list with nine victories and two setbacks. In addition, the Beermen are coming off an eight-day rest as they prep up for their match against the Bolts later in the evening.

SMB is looking to add another chip to their stacked collection of trophies in the Philippine Cup conference where they have already amassed nine championships over the years, including their historic five-peat race.

However, they should first triumph over the heavily-motivated Meralco team that is currently coming off an energy-filling win against the Kings.

“Meralco’s never been to the finals in the all-Filipino so we can use that as motivation,” shared Meralco’s Newsome. “We recognize that we still have more history that we can make.”

“We go over the hump against Ginebra but it’s just one step. There’s another goal that we haven’t reached yet, which is getting to the (all-Filipino) finals,” he added.
