The Meralco Bolts and the NLEX Road Warriors are going to have a head-to-head match against each other this afternoon.

Meralco is looking to open the conference with a win while NLEX is aiming to add another dub after claiming victory in their previous game against the Elasto Painters.

The Bolts squad lost against the San Miguel Beermen in the semi-finals of the previous conference where they lost in Game 7 of their best-of-seven series. They are aiming to bounce back in the current conference as they introduce their new import, namely, Franky Johnson.

Johnson, playing as a 6-foot-2 guard under coach Black, will have a significant role in their journey all throughout the Commissioners’ Cup alongside Aaron Black and Chris Newsome who both dominated in the last tourney.

As for NLEX, they had a slow start to begin the contest against Rain or Shine but gradually took over the game in the succeeding quarters as they earn their first win. Despite the opposing team having a 12-point winning margin at one point in the contest, NLEX still reduced it and took control, and had a 14-point lead of their own.

Earl Clark, NLEX’s import, had a stellar performance for the team, tallying 26 points, 14 boards, six blocks, and four steals, and went 9-21 from the field, finishing the game with a double-double output. Justin Chua added 18 points and eight rebounds while Alas had 15 markers against the Elasto Painters.
