Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup Finals Game 7 between the San Miguel Beermen and the Talk ‘N Text TNT Tropang Giga scheduled on September 4, 2022, at 6:00 PM.
The Beermen wanted to reclaim its position as the mightiest team in the “Kraken’s” era as they attempt to keep their winning streak in a do-or-die Finals series while the Tropang Giga will make another attempt to capture the All-Filipino crown after their unsuccessful campaign in Game 6.
To make its statement for survival, San Miguel made a huge surge in the first quarter of Game 6 where they registered 40 points while limiting the KaTropa to only 24. Then at the start of the second half, SMB made a similar run to keep their scoring distance versus their opponent.
Marcio Lassiter, CJ Perez, and Simon Enciso had good timing where they found their accuracy from the three-point area. Lassiter shoots 6-of-7, Perez has 3-of-3 and Enciso converted six of his eleven attempts. Looking at the stat sheets seems like June Mar Fajardo played decoy, and the gold standard offensive strategy of the Beermen which is the hi-low play worked like a charm. Fajardo though logged a double-double performance with 10 points and 10 rebounds yet it’s mountains apart compared to what he did in the previous games of the series.
For TNT camp, on the other hand, injuries keep on piling for them as Glenn Khobuntin went sidelines due to an MCL injury. The former National University standout now joins Jayson Castro and Poy Erram on their team’s injury list.
However, good news for Talk ‘N Text fans as Castro and Erram may still be available in this win-all battle in order for them to get a higher chance to snag back-to-back championships in the All-Filipino conference. Though the “Blur” is a game-time decision but his eagerness to play despite the pain due to his ankle injury is there.
“Hindi pa 100 percent. Siyempre, hindi naman magiging 100 percent. Pero Game Seven is Game Seven. Lahat ng players gusto laruan [‘yan], di ba? Ita-try ko talaga best ko para makatulong sa team,” said Castro.
In Game six, Castro was in TNT uniform though the decision of both their coach and medical staff is to keep the former Best Point Guard in Asia on their bench.
“Coaches’ decision, and at the same time (decision) ‘yun ng PT at doctor namin. Kasi ilang days pa lang naman ‘yun. 48 hours pa lang,” said Castro.
In their previous outing, RR Pogoy tried to carry TNT by registering 31 points but all of the efforts were not enough for them to start celebrating.
“Ganun talaga, e,” said by Pogoy a former Gilas Pilipinas guard. “Nag step-up na talaga ako. Hirap talaga kung wala si kuya Jayson [Castro]. Kailangan talaga namin siya.”
The reigning Rookie of the Year and probably the main offensive weapon of TNT since his arrival seems absent in their previous game. Mikey Williams got clamped down and he only managed to drop a couple of points. Pogoy and the rest of the Tropang Giga are looking forward to his bounce-back game and that could be perfect timing as his scoring prowess is now very much needed.
“I know si Mikey mag-bounce back talaga yan. And sana makalaro na si Kuya Jayson,” said Pogoy.
