Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup between the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel and the Meralco Bolts scheduled on October 2, 2022, at 6:45 PM.
The Gin Kings wanted to avenge their probably worst performance at least this conference after a subpar performance a few days ago while the Bolts will also try to regroup after absorbing their first defeat just a couple of days ago. All of this basketball action will be witnessed tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
If you take what one of the PBA TV commentators said during the Rain or Shine versus Ginebra just last Wednesday, the squad being maneuvered by head coach Tim Cone will just get scarier this conference. The multi-awarded bench chief tactician for sure won’t accept that kind of defeat especially now that they have new additions on their team that should make them more formidable in the PBA.
Coach Cone was humbled by how Elasto Painters came much more prepared than them during that match and gave the newly installed RoS head coach Yeng Guiao praises.
“Pretty stunning the way we played,” said Cone. “Didn’t expect this at all. I have to give credit to coach Yeng for a brilliant game plan, changing defense on us. We weren’t prepared for changing defenses.”

Ginebra balik-import Justin Brownlee struggled in his first game, particularly in the first half of that contest where he only converted one field goal out of his eleven attempts. Though “JB” was able to find his shooting touches in the second half but it was too late for them to mount a comeback and ignite that famous “Never-Say-Die” run. Brownlee finished the game with 20 points along with 16 rebounds.
“They were really smart because we just got new guys and we weren’t prepared to do that kind of stuff. We were focused on our execution and they disrupted our execution. And they shot the ball really well and we didn’t shoot the ball well,” Cone added.
Probably the biggest thorn for the Bolts for them to reach PBA greatness is Ginebra. They tried four times in the PBA Governors’ Cup but they ended empty-handed. However, there’s some good news and they could use that as their motivation to finally disrupt the spell of their third conference nemesis.
In the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup, they were able to dispatch the Gin Kings in the Quarterfinals round and tonight without a doubt they wanted to keep that momentum.
Just like their tonight’s opponent, Meralco also came from a heartbreaking defeat. Their story, they were up almost the entire quarter only to give up their lead in the final quarter and also in the overtime period as they witnessed the greatness of Robert Bolick who dropped a new career-high in scoring.
“We had our opportunities. We had shots underneath the basket. We couldn’t make any outside shots. It was like their shots were falling while our shots stopped going in,” said Meralco coach Norman Black.
The Bolts have some challenges as they face their rival as Chris Newsome was reported to be on the sidelines due to a calf injury.
