Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup between the Meralco Bolts and the Converge FiberXers scheduled on October 15, 2022, at 4:30 PM live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Bolts are eyeing a two-game winning streak while the FiberXers will try to end their back-to-back losing skid when the 2022 second conference tournament resumes at the Big Dome this afternoon.
Meralco’s assistant coach Luigi Trillo won’t ride on their opponent’s description that they’re a neophyte in the PBA. However, the majority of their players are mostly considered newbies in the league.
“Converge is a very complete team. They’re not a neophyte team, they inherited the Alaska team,” Trillo said.
That’s for sure as the squad, now led by head coach Aldin Ayo, showed toughness and gave their previous two opponents a hard time to take the win. FiberXers’ last two assignments are now holding the top-two position in this import-laden conference, these are Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots and the Bay Area Dragons.
“Aside from that they were able to strengthen themselves with two first-round picks,” added Trillo. “So you know they’re good, they’re deep, a well-coached team and they have a really good import, a guy who can score,” Trillo said.
These two rookies that Trillo is referring to might be Jeo Ambohot and Justine Arana who are pick 3 and pick 4 respectively in the most recent PBA draft. Arana is slowly making his name in the league by showing how tough he is inside the paint, Ambohot skills are for sure upcoming, he just needs more playing time yet usually during Commissioner’s Cup the big-man position minutes belong to import.
Speaking of import, Converge’s Quincy Miller looks like he blends with the youth movement of their team. It appears that the former NBA player still has the legs of a collegiate basketball warrior. Miller currently averages 30.7 points and 16.3 rebounds after three outings.
“We are playing a high-scoring team so our transition and perimeter defense will have to be solid,” said Bolts’ head coach Norman Black. “We also have to find a way to slow down Miller.”
