The young-bloods of the FiberXers seem like there is no plan to slow down any soon instead they wanted to keep piling more wins and solidify their top-four position in the standings while the Bossing will try to match that as they may unleash their own youth movement squad this afternoon when the tournament continues in Rizal.
Converge is giving a new taste yet familiar test of basketball games this conference that helps them register a 4-2 card and currently third best in the standings. Their up-tempo style and massive shooting from the three-point area gave their opponent headaches, at least in their first half of outings.
Jeron Teng is one of the benefactors of the adjustments made by the telecom company and one of them is to bring the amateur type of play into the professional ranks.
“Yung pinapa-implement niya sa Converge ngayon medyo different, kasi iba naman yung collegiate level sa PBA,” said Teng. “But I know that coach Aldin’s system works. So we (FiberXers) just rely on it and play through the system,” he added.
Blackwater, on the other hand, has several young guns at its disposal that they can deploy to match their opponents’ speedy legs. However, head coach Ariel Vanguardia wanted a different strategy to slow down the FiberXers.
“Huwag namin dapat ibigay ‘yung kanilang gustong gawin, run-and-gun,” said Vanguardia the day before their Sunday match. “Kailangan talaga naming i-dictate ang pace, play deliberate basketball and, pinaka-importante, huwag itapon ang bola,” added Vanguardia.
That move of Vanguardia is due to the expected absence of Troy Rosario who is out due to a foot injury, Jayvee Casio who is having a groin injury while Baser Amer is a game-time decision as he is also nursing a calf muscle strain.
“Marami kaming di lalaro so kailangan niyan medyo i-pace namin ang laro,” said Vanguardia. “Iyon din sana gusto naming game, uptempo, pero dahil nga sa injuries kailangan di kami makipagsabayan. Ibang gameplan dapat.”
