PBA Live Score and Result: San Miguel (SMB) vs NLEX | 2022 Commissioner’s Cup | October 23, 2022

Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup between the San Miguel Beermen and the NLEX Road Warriors scheduled on October 23, 2022, at 4:30 PM live from the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, Metro Manila.

This may be one of the rare events that PBA fans see in any conference yet it’s true that the Beermen are at the bottom four of the standings and staring at their two-game losing skid which of course they wanted to break this afternoon while the Road Warriors just picked up another “W” and this time with their new coach, for sure they also wanted to extend it to two in a row.

San Miguel fielded its third import this conference yet the welcome party for Devon Scott last Wednesday for his PBA debut didn’t result in a win. Most probably it’s because lack of needed time to familiarize the basketball system of head coach Leo Austria plus the adjustment with his new teammates.

The good news is that Scott seems like a natural post-player and his points production will be coming from the paint. In his first game in the league, he attempted 18 shots and 17 of those are either mid-range or inside the painted area. The 6-foot-9 who previously played in Fuerza Regia de Monterrey of the Liga Nacional de Baloncesto Profesional (LNBP) scored 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The entire Beermen and its fans are hoping that the three-day break will be enough for them to find the needed chemistry so that they’ll be back in contention as their local main-man June Mar Fajardo is expected to be out at least four weeks. That time frame could be playoffs time and for San Miguel to reach the second round they need at least five or six wins to secure a quarterfinals spot.

Meanwhile, NLEX head coach Frankie Lim was able to eliminate the monkey off his shoulder as he finally logged his first win after his return to the PBA. Coincidentally, that victory was against TNT head coach Chot Reyes, his former mentor during his Purefoods playing years.

“I’m just very happy na nanganay, ‘yung sinasabi nila. I got my first (win) so just because of that I’m happy it happened,” said Lim.

Road Warriors import Earl Clark was near unstoppable in that match against Tropang Giga where he made 45 points along with 16 rebounds. Without a doubt, whatever works for them during that Talk ‘N Text match they will try to execute it again versus their today’s opponent.

“We came in, we told ourselves we’re gonna work hard, that we could practice and try to go over what we need to execute and I felt like we did that today,” said Clark. “If we keep taking that approach we’re heading in the right direction.”
