Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup between the San Miguel Beermen and the Bay Area Dragons scheduled on October 16, 2022, at 4:30 PM live from the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
The Dragons will try to dodge a back-to-back defeat as they duel another solid contender while the Beermen will try to overcome a major hurdle as they attempt a two-game winning streak. All of these basketball actions will be witnessed this afternoon at the Big Dome.
Without a doubt, the biggest secret of San Miguel’s success in the PBA particularly in the All-Filipino conference is June Mar Fajardo who won multiple Most Valuable Player awards and of course championships.
Later today, head coach Leo Austria and the entire Beermen will miss “the Kraken’s” services as he is expected to be on the team’s injury list to fully recover from his recent surgery to fix his misaligned cartilage in his larynx. He got that rare basketball injury after he got accidentally elbowed by Rain or Shine Elasto Painters’ import Steve Taylor during their squad’s head-to-head battle a few days ago.
“Nakauwi na si June Mar pero he has to sit out several games para magpagaling ng husto,” related Austria.
To boost their chances to snag a victory against this year’s guest team, coach Austria wanted their import, Diamond Stone to double his efforts playing at the low post.
“Nag-ko-complement sila ni June Mar sa mga high-low plays namin, pero ngayong wala si June Mar we have to come up with new strategies and make him (Stone) play on the inside more,” said Austria.
Stone who is actually a replacement import of San Miguel as their original pick, Thomas Robinson who is a former first-round pick in the NBA got injured. Coach Austria sounds like he’s expecting that the adjustment will be quick for them to improve their win-loss card.
“Siyempre panibagong adjustment na naman iyon para sa kanya but we’re hoping na mag-work out,” added Austria. “Maganda naman so far ang ipinapakita sa practice.”
Meanwhile, for Bay Area, several days of rest may be enough for its players to get energized. On their last outing, they only need a few days to prepare to face the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
In that match, the Dragons used Andrew Nicholson as their import substituting Myles Powell. This match might be a bounce-back game for the former Orlando Magic forward who himself also got drafted in the first round during the 2012 NBA Draft.
“Malalaki ang Bay Area, lalo na’t ang import nila ngayon ‘yung (Andrew) Nicholson, kaya kailangan talaga makatulong siya (referring to Stone) sa loob,” said Austria.
