The Beermen are eager to avenge their sorry defeat last October 5 or during their second conference debut while the Elasto Painters will try to catch another PBA big fish when the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup resumes at the PhilSports Arena.
Still fresh from winning their 2022 PBA Philippine Cup title, San Miguel may be still on cloud nine as they got beaten by the Blackwater Bossing though they had the upper hand as that match entered the final quarter.
The Beermen was ahead by 15 points in the third quarter, however, Baser Amer and the entire Bossing made their move and slowly cut the lead and eventually took over the driver’s seat to notch their second water this current tournament.
“Nag-collapse kami. ‘Yung start (namin) maganda ang laro, ‘yung fluidity nandoon,” said SMB coach Leo Austria. “But dumating ‘yung time na everybody wanted to score. At the same time, medyo sinuwerte ‘yung kalaban, kami naman minalas sa endgame.”
According to some experts, San Miguel’s first defeat was due to the lack of their import in coach Austria’s system as well as to his local teammates.
“He’s not yet familiar with us because he never practiced with us,” said Austria of Stone.
This afternoon could be the redemption game of Stone but it won’t come easy as the dangerous Rain or Shine will barricade the winning ways.
RoS head coach Yeng Guiao sounds satisfied with how his troops responded after returning to the coaching staff where he previously led to two PBA titles.
“The good thing about this team is, ang bilis ng progress,” said Guiao. “I did not expect this team to gel this soon, to be able to catch on to the system this soon. Pero parang na-accelerate namin ‘yung pagsa-sama-sama, pag-absorb ng system,” added Guiao.
Apart from his local players, the fiery coach is pleased with what their import currently performs this mid-conference PBA games.
“Iyun ang maganda about Steve, he can play inside and outside,” said Guiao. “So when he was getting touches inside he was able to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. At least, gumagawa siya ng paraan para makatulong sa team.”
