The Tropang Giga wanted to keep their current position as one of the top-four clubs in the ongoing tournament while the Road Warriors will try to end their losing skid and finally give their new head coach a victory.
Although Talk ‘N Text came from a blowout victory against the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters last October 15 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum, head coach Chot Reyes is able to snipe what’s lacking from his team to make them a true contender this conference.
Against an import-less opponent, TNT got outscored by 16 points in the second quarter after a blazing 41-20 advantage in the opening period.
“We had a good first quarter but had a bad second quarter. We lost the second quarter by 16 points with our rivals without an import. And that does not speak well of us. It’s a perfect reflection of where we are right now as a team,” said Reyes.
That match was also the second conference game debut of Jayson Castro who tried to tame his injury during an intense 2022 PBA Philippine Cup Finals battle with the eventual champion, the San Miguel Beermen.
The “Blur’s” presence and his leadership were immediately felt by his squad particularly by his multi-champion coach although he only logged 13 minutes of playing time.
“We need to play a full 48 minutes and we’re not there yet. It’s good Jayson was there and he injected life for us in the third quarter,” Reyes added.
For the Road Warriors, on the other hand, Frankie Lim is back in the PBA as the official head coach of the squad, yet his first victory seems too elusive.
After he took over the calls from the sidelines of NLEX, the team dropped two-game in a row. To be fair, their last two assignments are much tougher, those are the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots which currently owns the top of the standings, and the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters which are currently making their own hot strides.
