The Vaughn-mentored squad also held their ground against Garland who chalked up 46 points and eight assists while shooting 14-20 from the floor. Not only that, but the sensational guard also single-handedly carried the team in the fourth quarter as they reduce Brooklyn’s winning difference.

Mitchell had a tough performance in the losing effort, scoring 15 points and went 5-16 from the field as he was tightly guarded by Simmons all throughout the game.

Brooklyn’s O’Neal and Claxton had 20 combined points, ten from both of them while Cleveland’s Mobely had 12 markers.

Moreover, the Nets won 13 of their 14 past matchups and is beginning to look like an NBA title contender despite the distractions that is primarily revolving around Irving and his off-court actions.

“To be honest, we’ve always been about basketball,” said Durant “The outside noise makes it seem like we don’t care about the game, but so many voices speak about our locker room who don’t have any idea what’s going on.”

“We’ve always been about the game.” he added.

During the contest, Durant claims the 15th place of the all-time scoring list when he drained a shot in the second period.

“At some point, you’ve got to be able to celebrate some small wins,” Durant said as he overtakes Duncan in the scoring list. “To be able to pass a legend, it’s something I’ll call my folks about tonight. I know that I’ve got more to do.”
