Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup Playoffs Semi-Finals Game 1 between the San Miguel Beermen and the Bay Area Dragons scheduled on December 14, 2022, at 3:00 PM live from the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City, Metro Manila.
From thirteen teams now reduced to four, the defending champions Beermen will test the Dragons who are the guest team for this year’s second conference comprised of foreign players coming from different regions of the world.
During the eliminations round, only two teams in the PBA gave Bay Area defeats in their win-loss card and San Miguel isn’t one of them. In their lone battle in the first round of the Commissioner’s Cup, the Dragons prove that they can tame another dragon as they whipped their semis rival 113-87.
However, that was a different San Miguel as June Mar Fajardo and Terrence Romeo weren’t healthy at that time and even SMB got a struggling import in Diamond Stone who was still finding his footing in the local league.
Currently, “the Kraken” and “the Golden Boy” are both back in harness. The two high-profile players in the league boosted the victories of their squad upon their return and secured a best-of-three spot during the quarterfinals round where they simply past-cruised the Converge FiberXers.
Romeo logged an impressive 17.5 points per outing during that quarterfinals battle, a testament that he is now ready for the bigger challenges, especially to face foreign counterparts who are as shifty as him.
“This is not the same San Miguel team that we saw in the regular season with (Terrence) Romeo in the team now, the big fellow (June Mar Fajardo) back and their overall depth. It’s gonna be a real challenge for us,” stated Bay Area head coach Brian Goorjian.
For the Dragons, on the other hand, they too have no problem eliminating their counterpart during the first round of the playoffs. Bay Area proves that they have an intense lineup and in their final game with the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, Hayden Joel Blankley dropped his career-high in scoring in the PBA where he made 47 points along with ten rebounds.
SMB deputy head coach Jorge Gallent understand his team’s current condition and he’s confident that the Beermen will have their own local talents that can match up with the giant, import, and speedy guard of their opponent.
“We have guys that can match up with them. We have talented big guys also. I won’t have a problem also. When we played them, it was Nicholson as the import. We can watch videos (of their first game) and see what went wrong and what we can do to improve in our series,” Gallent said.
