The Magnolia Timplados Hotshots survived against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel with a game-winning shot by Paul Lee in the last seconds of the fourth quarter, tying the series 1-1.

With eleven seconds left in regulation, Brownlee spots an open Stanley Pringle in the corner where he drained a step-back three-pointer to give the Gin-Kings a one-point lead at 94-95.

On the other end, with only five seconds remaining, Abueva inbounded the ball and gave the ball to Lee. The guard then had no control of the possession for a moment but managed to recover it. “The Leethal Weapon” then put up a bank shot over the overstretched arms of Justin Brownlee and drains it, claiming the massive victory in the process.

Paul Lee finished with 24 points and went 5-8 from the three-point range. Lee was also red hot in the first where he knocked down three three-pointers in the first couple of minutes.

Magnolia shot better against Ginebra in Game 2, hitting 47% of their attempts while the Kings converted 39% of their shots. However, Ginebra was much better from beyond the arc where they drained 15 of their 35 attempts. The Hotshots only hit nine of their 24 looks.

Justin Brownlee led the squad with 34 points on 13-20 shooting and five rebounds while playing for 45 minutes. Both teams could have met in the Finals in last year’s tournament, but Ginebra faced Meralco instead and won with a 4-2 stint.

Rakocevic ended the matchup with an outstanding stat line, chalking up 23 points and 20 rebounds while hitting eight of his 14 shots. The import also played 46 huge minutes for the Hotshots. Jalalon added 15 points as he came off as a second unit for Magnolia.

Barroca struggled most of the game against the Kings but came up big in the fourth where he made a couple of crucial shots. He ended with eight points.

There were not many offensive producers for Ginebra in their showdown against Magnolia. Pringle, who came off from the bench, had 17 points while Thompson had 12 points and nine boards. Both Standhardinger and Aguilar registered 12 combined points, six from both of them.

We will witness another “Manila Clasico” contest between these two teams at 6:45 PM on December 18 at the Philsports Arena.
