The San Miguel Beermen is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Super LPG Fuelmasters at 6:45 PM on January 29, 2023 live from the Ynares Center in Antipolo City, Rizal.

The Beermen will be parading a balik-import and welcome a newly appointed head coach as they start their PBA third conference campaign while the Fuelmasters will try to spoil the party as they continue to hunt for their first win for the ongoing tournament.

San Miguel will be officially entering the post-Leo Austria era as Jorge Gallent will take over as the new head coach of the most winningest squad in the PBA which already amassed a total of 28 championships.

Gallent already showcased his coaching abilities during the 2022 PBA Commissioner’s Cup where he led the franchise to a 6-1 record while coaching Austria underwent health and safety protocols. The Beermen also gave the visiting team from Hong Kong, the Bay Area Dragons a tough time in the semi-finals round before raising the flag in Game 4.

“Coach Jorge will take over bringing with him PBA head coaching experience and an exciting future for the franchise,” said team manager Gee Abanilla.

Another new in San Miguel’s squad is their 6’7 import Cameron Clark who isn’t that really new in the PBA after serving one conference with the NLEX Road Warriors as a replacement for KJ McDaniels (now with Meralco Bolts) during the 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup.

For Phoenix on the other hand, they too got a new head coach in their squad and that’s Jamike Jarin who led the San Beda Red Lions to a championship in 2016. He got the role after Topex Robinson opted to sign with the La Salle Green Archers in the UAAP.

“We are happy for him (Robinson) and grateful for his time with our organization. But we are also saddened and deeply hurt at how the separation played out,” said team manager Paolo Bugia.

Though they are currently down at 0-2 yet the positive side is that those games didn’t end in a blowout defeat. Looks like the entire squad is in the adjustment phase at the moment and only time will tell before they become again the usual “dark horse” of the league.
