The Oklahoma City Thunder takes a bounce back win against the Los Angeles Lakers on their home court on James’ historic night.
LeBron James has finally claimed the all-time scoring record in the league, tallying 38 points to surpass Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s long-time record. “The King” had his 36th point on a step-back, fadeaway jumper, taking the number one spot in one of the most looked upon category.
“The Captain” held the most points scored since April 1984, who cheered on James on the baseline near the Lakers bench. James and Abdul-Jabbar were then joined by NBA Commissioner Adam Silver center court after the historic basket.
James’ whole family was present in the matchup. Not only them, but famous celebrities as well that filled the arena with energy whenever LeBron touched the ball as he pursued his 38, 388th point.
After hitting that remarkable shot, the game was stopped for about ten minutes while James celebrated with his family and participated in a brief ceremony with the league commissioner and Kareem.
“I just want to say thank you to the Laker faithful,” James shared. “You guys are one of a kind. To be able to be in the presence of such a legend as great as Kareem, it’s very humbling.”
However, despite the massive celebrations and cheers, Los Angeles is still struggling on their games as they now have received their second consecutive setback.
The Lakers were not careful with the ball and had 21 total turnovers against OKC. The opposing team them took advantage of this and had 27 markers off of it. Because of this, plus the hot outside shooting, Oklahoma was able to rack up their lead by as much as 15 points against the home squad.
Russell Westbrook had 27 points and eight assists while shooting 4-7 from three-point land. Anthony Davis added 13 points and eight boards while Hachimura contribued 14 points in the losing effort.
Furthermore, the Thunder dominated in the second period where they registered 40 points against the Lakers’ 32 points.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the team with 30 points and eight assists on 9-17 shooting. Jalen Williams added 25 points while Giddey had 20 points.
Oklahoma rises up to 26-28 while the Lakers fall down to 25-30.
