The Batang Pier will be fighting for their lives and trying to get the last playoff ticket in this year’s third conference. The Batang Pier must beat the Tropang Giga to level their record with Phoenix Super LPG, currently tied at 4-7, to guarantee a place in the quarterfinals. The Tropang Giga, on the other hand, could lose their remaining games and still be in the top four, but they will be eager to maintain their second spot to avoid a matchup with top-seeded Ginebra.

Northport coach Bonnie Tan is confident that his team can pull off a victory over TNT. “Given that we still have a chance, we need to grab it. They have to dig deep within themselves, and their desire should reflect in their game,” Tan said. “I told the players, ‘If you want to go on vacation, show it on the court. But if you still want to fight, it’s up to you.'”

Northport’s import, Kevin Murphy, has been in top form, averaging a league-best 37 points along with 11.3 rebounds and 3.7 assists per game. He needs to deliver again if the Batang Pier is to secure a win against TNT. “If Murphy wants to prolong his stay, we have to win with him leading the way,” Tan challenged Murphy.

TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa is well aware of Northport’s motivation to keep their playoff hopes alive. “Northport is a team that is fighting for its playoff life, and they’ve been playing well,” Lastimosa said. “We have to match their energy and intensity if we want to win.”

Lastimosa knows his team cannot afford to be complacent against Northport. “We cannot take any team lightly in this league. Northport has been playing well lately, and we need to come prepared for this game,” he added.

The match will feature some of the league’s best players, including Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, Roger Pogoy, and Mikey Williams of TNT, and Robert Bolick, Arvin Tolentino, JM Calma, and Joshua Munzon of Northport.

Northport’s recent win against Rain or Shine has boosted their confidence, and they will be looking to carry their momentum forward. “We’re glad we were able to pull through that win against Rain or Shine,” Tan said. “We need to carry that momentum into the game against TNT.”
