Dallas Mavericks Set to Make Contract Offer to Matisse Thybulle, Report Says

by | Posted on: July 6th, 2023 | No Comments |

According to a recent report by Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report, the Dallas Mavericks have expressed their intention to make a contract offer to Matisse Thybulle, who is currently a restricted free agent. Thybulle’s current team, the Portland Trail Blazers, will have the opportunity to match the offer and retain the services of the talented wing player. Haynes suggests that Thybulle is expected to sign the offer sheet presented by the Mavericks.

At 26 years old, Thybulle showcased his skills as a versatile wing player during the last season, averaging 7.4 points and 3.5 rebounds in 22 games for the Blazers. Playing an average of 27.7 minutes per game, he primarily made an impact on the defensive end of the court, effectively fulfilling the roles of shooting guard and small forward. The Blazers took proactive measures to retain Thybulle by extending a qualifying offer before the onset of free agency, securing their right to match any offer he receives from another team.

Thybulle’s acquisition by the Blazers took place during the 2023 NBA Trade Deadline as part of a deal that saw small forward Josh Hart being sent to the New York Knicks. The move demonstrated the team’s belief in Thybulle’s abilities and potential contribution to their roster.

Although the specific financial details of the offer were not disclosed in the report, it is highly likely that the Mavericks would utilize their Mid-Level Exception to sign Thybulle. Last season, Thybulle earned $4.4 million under his rookie-scale contract after being selected as the 20th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft.

Adding further weight to the news, Shams Charania of The Athletic reported that Matisse Thybulle will sign a three-year offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks. Once the offer sheet is signed, the Trail Blazers will have a two-day window to decide whether to match the offer or reject it.

Thybulle’s contributions on the court were notable for the Blazers last season. He also showcased his shooting prowess, maintaining an impressive 38.8% shooting percentage from beyond the arc. Thybulle’s acquisition from the Philadelphia 76ers during the trade deadline was part of a three-team trade involving the Charlotte Hornets.

The potential addition of Matisse Thybulle to the Dallas Mavericks roster would provide the team with a solid defensive presence and an offensive threat from the wing position. His versatility and ability to impact the game on both ends of the court would likely be a valuable asset for the Mavericks as they aim to strengthen their roster for the upcoming season.
