The Mindanao All Stars is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Smart All Star National Team (Gilas Pilipinas) at 7:00 P.M. on May 23, 2018 live from the Davao Del Sur Coliseum, Digos.
PBA All Star weekend is finally here and it will start its tour in Digos City. This time around, both the Mindanao All Stars and the Gilas Pilipinas will resume its battle which tied the ball-game last year.
In this year’s version, the Mindanao squad will be coached by Tim Cone and considered that his troops will play just like the Gilas Pilipinas because of their height disadvantage but notorious when it comes to speed.
“We’ll look like Gilas than Gilas themselves. We’ll be the small team playing a team like the Australians. We’ll play Gilas style,” said PBA Mindanao coach Tim Cone.
In 2017, the Mindanao All Stars and Gilas Pilipinas settled in a tie ball-game with the final score 114-all. Troy Rosario who played as an import for the Mindanao lead his team in scoring with 28 points while Matthew Wright had 22 points for the national team.
Unlike last year, Troy Rosario will be suiting up with Gilas and will team-up with Wright. For the Mindanao, although their starters are loaded with Guards, in their bench they have Mo Tautuaa, Rafi Reavis and Poy Erram to counter the Gilas bigs.
To spice up the event, PBA got a Legends Shootout that will give fans an appetizer before the main event. Participants for the shootout are Allan Caidic and Secretary Bong Go, Kenneth Duremdes and Senator Manny Pacquiao, Peter June Simon and Presidential son-in-law Mans Carpio, then there’s Scottie Thompson and Major Michael Sabsal.
