The Northport Batang Pier is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Magnolia Hotshots at 4:00 PM on October 30, 2020 live from the AUF Sports Arena and Cultural Center in Angeles City, Pampanga.

With a morale-boosting first win in the PBA bubble at the expense of Terrafirma Dyip, 107-96, Northport is expected to play inspired this Friday against an equally determined Magnolia.

Teaming up in a key display of three-point shooting, Rookie Renzo Subido and Kelly Nabong lead the Batang Pier to their breakthrough triumph. From a 92-88 count, Subido and Nabong combined for four straight treys to get NorthPort over the hump while leaving Terrafirma (0-4) as the lone winless team in the bubble tourney.

Subido made an explosion, erupting for three treys plus a three-point play in the last five minutes of the game. Nabong, on the other hand, stepped up, going 4-of-6 from the arc to highlight an 18-point, eight-rebound game.

“Yung mga bata gusto ng manalo at ayaw ma-five-zero. Madaming nag-step up, and it’s a morale-boosting win for us. We’re down to an 11-strong team; actually, 10-strong nga lang since Kevin (Ferrer) is playing injured. Pero talagang nag-step up sila,” said NorthPort coach Pido Jarecio.

Similarly, heading to their match-up with Northport, the Chito Victolero-coached team had a morale-boosting win as well at the expense of the streaking Barangay Ginebra, 102-92.

Jackson Corpuz’s 20-point output, backed up by Paul Lee and Mark Barroca’s combined 30-points help keep the Hotshots in the game and eventually cut short their three-game slide, improving its record to 2-4.

Barroca scored eight of his 15 points in the fourth where Lee, held to only two points in the first half, scattered six of his 15. Ian Sangalang chipped in 14 points and eight caroms while Chris Banchero added 10 markers. Jio Jalalon scored only nine points but issued a game-high 10 assists.

Both were enjoying the momentum of a stirring triumph. Nonetheless, the Hotshots and the Batang Pier should still be upbeat as they set out for their 4 PM tussle to kickstart tomorrow’s PBA bubble matches.
