The Alaska Aces is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the Phoenix Petroleum Fuel Masters at 4:30 P.M. on July 6, 2018 live from the Cuneta Astrodome.
The Aces are looking to end their two-game losing skid and improve their chances to end as one of the top two teams at the end of the elims while the Fuel Masters will attempt to make back-to-back victories when 2018 PBA Commissioner’s Cup resumes this afternoon.
After its dismal performance against the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel prior to the one week break to support Gilas Pilipinas, the Aces made a drastic shake-up in its roster.
Antonio Campbell who helped Alaska to make six straight victories this conference got replaced by Diamon Simpson. Most likely the below average performance of Campbell against Ginebra is the trigger why coach Alex Compton need to make an adjustment as playoffs is about the start.
Likewise, Alaska is aiming that twice-to-beat advantage in the Quarterfinals and they can only achieve that if they are able to secure a win against Phoenix.
For the Fuel Masters on the other hand, losing today’s ball-game will be also the end of their second conference campaign. Coach Louie Alas most likely will go beyond the stats as they prepare themselves against his former wards.
“Basta buhay may pag-asa,” said Alas. “It will be harder because of Diamon pero positive naman kami,” said Alas. “Major concerns ang rebounding, taking care of the basketball and no forced shots,” he added.
If Phoenix wins, then Barangay Ginebra, GlobalPort Batang Pier and Magnolia Hotshots Pambansang Manok will automatically secure a Quarterfinals ticket while Alaska will be demoted to number four and will play a best-of-three series against the number five squad.
