After several months of a forced break due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines Basketball Association is back and will have its own bubble similar to the NBA in Angeles City.

In the league’s historic first tip-off, the Aces and TNT will do the honors, and just like every team, they’re looking to have a good start.

Yet, both squads will miss key veterans from their respective benches. Alaska will play without Sonny Thoss who announced that he will be retiring at the end of the Philippine Cup and a similar story with TNT’s Kelly Williams who initially joined the team’s own bubble at the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba but later decided to leave which followed his retirement announcement.

Talk ‘N Text will carry a new moniker and that’s the “Tropang Giga”. Seems like that the squad led by head coach Bong Ravena wanted a fresh start in this unique conference.

“Giga is derived from the Greek word gigas, which means ‘giant.’ We don’t just go big; we always go Giga!” said team manager Gabby Cui.

TNT will parade their off-season acquisitions that will bolster their All-Filipino campaign. Poy Erram, Simon Enciso, and their first-rounder pick Kib Montalbo.

For the Aces, on the other hand, coach Jeff Cariaso doesn’t have glittering names added to their roster except for their fourth pick in the 2019 PBA Draft and that’s FEU Tamaraw’s Barkley Eboña.

However, a much tougher and bulkier Vic Manuel is expected to rise in the occasion along with Jeron Teng who will be entering his third season as a professional basketball player.
