An estimated 900,000 customers of Cebuana Lhuillier were affected by a breach where their personal information may have compromised.

That’s according to the official statement released by the local pawnshop this Saturday.

Date of birth, client’s address, sources of income were among the data on the list which may have been accessed without authorization.

Yet, the company gave assurance that their main servers are “remain safe and protected”. Transaction details or information were not leaked.

After Cebuana Lhuillier aware of the incident they have reported the matter to National Privacy Commission (NPC). The company also informed their affected users and gave guidance to safeguard their respective accounts.

Below is the official statement from Cebuana Lhuillier:

“We recently discovered a data breach which affected our email server that is used for marketing purposes. Information of around 900,000 clients was affected. Some of these information included birthdays, addresses and source of income.

Transaction details of information were not compromised. The company’s main servers remain safe and protected.

Upon discovery, we immediately coordinated with the National Privacy Commission (NPC) to investigate the matter, and already implemented safety measures to protect the personal data of our clients. We also notified all affected clients and provided them guidance on how to further protect their personal information.

We are committed to ensuring the data privacy of our clients and adhere to strict security protocols in protecting our interests.

We will provide additional information regarding the incident as soon as it becomes available.”

Cebuana Lhuillier is the biggest non-bank financial service provider in the Philippines. Pawning, remittance and micro-insurance are their areas of specialization.

Two years ago, the company said that they have accumulated more than 9 million members across the nation through their loyalty program.
