The Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles is scheduled for a head-to-head game against the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons at 4:00 P.M. on October 14, 2018 live from the Mall of Asia Arena.
Both teams are looking to make a quick bounce back after they suffered a loss in their respective previous matches. The Blue Eagles bowed down versus the Far Eastern University Tamaraws while the Fighting Maroons got beaten by University of Santo Tomas Growling Tigers.
It was one of those off-nights for the defending champion Ateneo when they dueled the now red hot FEU Tamaraws.
The Blue Eagles shot a dismal 29% (22-of-74) from the field and their bigs got out rebounds by their opponent, 38-43.
Also, the boys of coach Tab Baldwin only managed to score seven points in the third quarter.
Despite of Tamaraws’ 27 turnovers against only 11 for them, they’re unable to capitalize and control the game.
For the University of the Philippines on the other hand, the boys of coach Bo Perasol seems like a fighting maroons in their game against the University of Santo Tomas.
Assistant head coach said that the focus of their players is something else.
“Ayaw niyong dumepensa? Ayaw niyong dumepensa,” said coach Ricky Dandan in one of UP’s team huddle. “Puro tayo papogi!” he added.
One of the go-to-guys of Fighting Maroons Juan Gómez de Liaño admitted that he displayed a poor defensive performance in that game.
“I don’t know. I was just playing bad defense to be honest,” he said.
