Here is the list of rookies selected by the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Gin Kings during the 2021 PBA Draft.
Still fresh from their PBA bubble championship, the Gin Kings isn’t slowing down instead they keep upgrading their roster with rookies and veterans. Just a few weeks ago, a blockbuster trade shook the league when Ginebra and the NorthPort Batang Pier agreed to swap the places of Greg Slaughter and Christian Standhardinger.
In the most recent rookie draft, head coach Tim Cone shattered most mock drafts after he called the name of Ken Holmqvist in the first round. Holmqvist who formerly played in the FEU Tamaraws in the UAAP was rarely mentioned on the list of players prepared by several basketball pundits in the Philippines.
According to some reports, it was assistant head coach Olsen Racela who whispered the name of Holmqvist to the franchise. Some basketball fans also said that Racela was also instrumental in the past drafts where they were able to find gems and of them is Scottie Thompson.
Ginebra got back-to-back picks and for their first pick in the second round, they selected Brian Enriquez from William Woods University.
Coach Cone showed interest in these two players prior to the draft. He is impressed with the way Enriquez and Holmqvist’s ability to play in multiple positions. Likewise, their new acquisitions will also bring good vibes to the team which will affect team chemistry, a tangible asset that helps bring a championship to a team.
The last pick of the Aces was in the third round where they took RK Ilagan.
