The Department of Health (DoH) has just confirmed the first case of a novel coronavirus in the Philippines.
The announcement was made by Health Secretary Francisco Duque III during a press briefing.
“Today the DOH is confirming that a Chinese female student is positive for novel coronavirus 2019 after her lab results arrived from victorian infectious disease in Melbourne, Australia,”
According to Sec. Duque, a Chinese woman went to a government hospital last January 25, 2020 after she experiencing a cough.
Likewise, the patient was “asymptomatic” meaning that she showed no signs of fever added by the DoH secretary.
Yet, on Thursday her lab results were received and it was revealed that she is positive with the new virus.
