In just four days after Phoenix started their 2019 PBA Commissioner’s Cup campaign the former Rookie of the Year got involved in several incidents.
First is his obscene gesture on the girlfriend of Bobby Ray Parks Jr., when their team played against the Blackwater Elite last May 31 then two days later he clotheslined the import of TNT KaTropa in a heated match.
Abueva was fined by the league with 20,000 pesos the same penalty amount asked by his mother-team for that obscene acts and 50,000 pesos for hitting Terrence Jones which resulted for a bloody lip.
His suspension will only be lifted depending on how and when Abueva will make his apology to those he got offended. Likewise, it also depend on how he will reform in his ways.
Abueva was traded by Alaska Aces to Phoenix last year for Karl Dehesa and a 2019 first-round draft pick. There are claims that when he arrived to the Fuel Masters he also brought winning culture for the team.
In the 2019 PBA Philippine Cup, they have proved that as they reached the semi-finals round and gave the eventual champion, the San Miguel Beermen a tough ride in the playoffs.
Apart for manufacturing points and rebounds, the former second overall pick of the 2012 PBA Draft behind June Mar Fajardo also brings energy to his squad.
In the All-Filipino conference, Abueva averaged 15.2 points and 11.3 rebounds a game and in this second conference during their last two outings, he logged 14.5 and 8.5 boards per ball-game.
