Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2021 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Semifinals Game 2 between the Chery Tiggo 7 Pro Crossovers and the Choco Mucho Flying Titans, scheduled on August 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM.
After a straight-sets victory over Chery Tiggo on Sunday at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, Choco Mucho is one victory away from the 2021 PVL Open Conference Finals.
With absolutely superb serving, the Flying Titans pushed the Crossovers out of their game and won 25-18, 25-22, 25-21.
Deanna Wong, who was practically fresh off the Crossovers’ non-bearing rout the day before, managed the offense on point when it mattered most and earned Player of the Game honors with 16 excellent sets and 4 points.
Choco Mucho had 31 attack points to the Crossovers’ 42, but scored 12 points off their serve and capitalized on 24 unforced errors of the second seed Chery Tiggo.
The Flying Titans had to come back from a four-point deficit in the second frame, as Chery Tiggo grabbed an 11-7 lead off a backrow hit by Dindin Santiago-Manabat, following a lopsided Set 1. Choco Mucho was able to come back into the game thanks to the errors by the Crossovers and critical points from Ponggay Gaston.
Regine Arocha blasted an ace to put the Flying Titans in command at 22-22, and Kat Tolentino had back-to-back kills to give her team a two-set lead.
Choco Mucho jumped off to a 7-0 lead in the third set, but the Crossovers rallied late, with a crosscourt hit by Mylene Paat making it a three-point game, 23-20. Choco Mucho was on match point at 24-20 when Gaston intercepted an attack from Shaya Adorador, but Adorador averted a match point in the next rally to keep Chery Tiggo afloat.
Maddie Madayag, on the other hand, would not be deterred, sinking a fast hit in the next rally to end the match.
The remainder of Choco Mucho’s key core certainly benefited from head coach Oliver Almadro’s benching in the previous game, as Tolentino once again led the club with 11 points on nine attempts.
Gaston and Bea De Leon each had ten points, while Madayag had nine points and three blocks.
Chery Tiggo’s Santiago-Manabat had a game-high 17 points, while Jaja Santiago only had nine points.
If the Flying Titans win today, they will earn the first of two spots in the PVL 2021 Finals, relegating the Crossovers to a battle for third place. Otherwise, tomorrow will be a do-or-die match between this two teams for a chance to fight the winner of the other semifinals matchup: Creamline Cool (1-0) Smashers and Petro Gazz Angels (0-1).
Chery Tiggo 3 – Sy 1, Santiago 13, Nabor 3, Paat 10, Adorador 9, Santiago-Manabat 19, Austero 4.
Choco Mucho 0 – Wong 2, Viray 6, Madayag 7, Gaston 5, Tolentino 14, De Leon 5, Gequillana 1, Arocha 2.
