Here are the live scores, updates, and results of the 2021 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference Battle for Third Game 2 between the Choco Mucho Flying Titans and the Petro Gazz Angels, scheduled on August 12, 2021, at 2:00 PM.
Petro Gazz won Game 1 of their bronze-medal match against Choco Mucho, 25-21, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20, on Wednesday afternoon at the PCV Socio-Civic Cultural Center in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte, owing to Myla Pablo’s clutch hits in the fourth set.
Pablo scored 26 points on 25 attacks to lead Petro Gazz to victory. Grethcel Soltones tallied 13 points on 10 kills and two aces for a total of 13 points. Ces Molina had 11 points, and Ria Meneses had five blocks for a total of ten points.
Petro Gazz’s offensive was on point in the first set, with a kills edge of 18-8. They still had to hold off the Flying Titans’ comeback attempt, with Regine Arocha’s back-to-back aces bringing the score to 22-21. However, Pablo and Molina came through in the clutch, scoring the final three points to give the Angels a 1-0 lead.
Petro Gazz cruised in the second set, but Choco Mucho came alive in the third, thanks to Ponggay Gaston, who carried the offensive for the Flying Titans. Gaston hit three consecutive hits to tie the game at 20 apiece, but Pablo responded with a crosscourt hit to put Petro Gazz up 21-20.
However, the Flying Titans won five of the final six points, sending the match to a fourth set thanks to Kat Tolentino’s crosscourt attack.
The fourth set was back-and-forth, but the Flying Titans were dealt a setback when Madayag had to be assisted from the court owing to an apparent knee injury. Meneses blocked Madayag at the net, and her knee buckled as she landed. She didn’t return to the game after that.
After a Gaston hit, the Flying Titans still had a 20-19 lead, but Pablo took over. Pablo scored three consecutive points to put Petro Gazz in charge after a Kim Gequilana serve fault knotted the set. Soltones’ ace placed the Angels on match point, and Tolentino’s attack blunder sealed the victory for Petro Gazz.
Despite playing sixth game in less than a week, Gaston still led the way for the Flying Titans with 18 points, while Tolentino chipped in with ten.
