Coach Chot Reyes has revealed the 12-man roster that will represent the country as Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas in the upcoming 2017 FIBA Asia Champions Cup.
With time is not a luxury for team Philippines, the coaching staff weren’t able to snag bigger names from the Philippines Basketball Association.
“We’re very short on time and we have very limited players available because the PBA is ongoing,” said Reyes.
Names like Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo were prospects to join the lineup but when the national squad began its practice, both Romeo and Abueva were battling to push their respective squad to qualify to the 2017 PBA Governors’ Cup.
In short both players who played in 2017 FIBA Asia Cup aren’t available.
Also, both Ray Ray Parks and Christian Standhardinger won’t be suiting up for the national squad due to injuries. Adding to Chooks-to-Go Gilas Pilipinas dilemma, their foreign reinforcements Isaiah Austin and Rob Ebondo are yet to be granted a Chinese Visa.
However, with experience running the Gilas Pilipinas squad for several years, coach Chot Reyes is confident that things will be OK and basketball games in China is a sure go.
“Like I’ve said, we’re used to this, and I think we have a pretty interesting team. We put together a pretty interesting team,” said coach Chot Reyes.

Sa tingin ko, di pa nagsisimula ang laro ay talo na tayo. Describing your team as “interesting” is just like saying we live in interesting times, which means the team faces difficult times ahead. So brace yourself. Huwag nalang siguro umasa.
