The Australia Boomers edged team Canada in their Group H opener, 108-92.
NBA veterans Joe Ingles and Matthew Dellavedova registered 13 and 24 points respectively. Those players were the sparkplugs of their squad in the fourth quarter to dominate the Canadians.
Australia was in a comfortable situation at the end of the first half where they piled a 12-point margin. Yet, at the opening of the third quarter, team Canada made their scoring surge and even took over the lead.
That third period was all Canada as they registered game-high 37 points.
Canada’s scoring spurt was orchestrated by Kevin Pangos who scored 14 points and had 8 dimes. Most of the recipient of his assists in that third quarter was Khem Birch who led his team in scoring with 18 markers.
However, in the final quarter, Australia regained the momentum as Matthew Delladova went unstoppable from the three-point area while Joe Ingles making sure that each of their position will translate into points for his squad.
Andrew Bogut who was earlier reported having an ankle injury still able to suit up for his squad. The Golden State Warriors big-man contributed 12 points and 9 rebounds.
