On August 24, it will be the first day of the school year 2020-21 for the elementary and high schools in both the private and public sectors.

The last day will be on April 30, 2021.

Education Secretary Leonor Briones confirmed it after she made her announcement through the Laging Handa Press Briefing. She also mentioned that not all students and teachers needed to be physically present in schools due to the other parts of the country are still in lockdown because of the COVID-19.

The Department of Education will implement different ways of teaching to students. Apart from online and the use of cellphones, the education department is also eyeing the use of television and radio broadcast as alternatives.

The upcoming Palarong Pambansa remains to be suspended along with other competitions and school events that can draw people which can lead to mass gatherings.

Though the start of the new school year is in August, DepEd instructed its teachers to render its service in the entire month of June either physically or in virtual to undergo capacity building for the new lessons.
