“Les Blues” will now advance to the Finals round of 2016 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament after beating team Turkey, 76-63 in their semi-final battle.
During the first quarter, the big men of Turkey led by Semih Erden and Omer Asik powered down the post and took a 13-3 run against the opposing team. Team France, however not showing any concern as they responded responded its own 13-0. France scoring drought ended after Nicolas Batum‘s shot got fouled at the three-point line. The forward was able to make all of the three free throws.
Nicolas Batum who just signed a multi-year contract with the Charlotte Hornets has joined France for the first time.
Tony Parker was only held to just two points in the entire ball-game but the scoring slack was picked up by Thomas Heurtel.
Heurtel won a Turkish Cup in 2015 and at the same he was the Most Valuable Player of the Turkish Basketball Super League on that same year.
Each time Turkey make its attack to lowering down the lead, Heurtel was there to respond at the end of the court.
Omer Asik played his best game so far in the tournament scored 19 points on 8-of-11 from the field (72%).
France biggest margin was 18 but Turkey was able to cut it to a single digit in the fourth quarter, 63-71 but not enough to topple “Les Blues“.
France will face Canada in the final round.
